The Commission staff and Board attended the Murchison Country Zone of WA Local Government Association biannual forum, better known as Cue Parliament, last week.
The Zone represents six local governments - Cue, Meekatharra, Mount Magnet, Murchison, Sandstone and Yalgoo.
A range of priorities were on the agenda with Commission CEO Nils Hay covering the upcoming Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants round, major project activation, the recent Roads for Rehydration Forum and Workshop, the Commission's strategic plan and brand refresh and upcoming events.
Once again we were treated to fantastic hospitality, with the Shire of Cue hosting a networking sundowner for parliament delegates and giving us a tour of two of their RED Grants projects.
The first is a commercial kitchen to support the Cue Café and hospitality venue at the State Heritage-listed former Western Australian Bank building.
Built over 100 years ago during the town’s gold-mining era, this iconic building has recently been refurbished for tourism purposes and forms part of the beautiful streetscape and cultural heritage in the main street of Cue.
The kitchen and café will support small business establishment and employment in the region and complements various tourism priorities such as the Murchison GeoRegion and astrotourism.
The second is the Heydon Place industrial development - a six-unit building to support industrial development and expansion in the region.
There is a growing need for serviced industrial land and facilities in the Murchison region, and we are excited by the potential of this project.
We look forward to some more RED grant applications from the Murchison region – and across the whole Mid West – when our Round 6 opens in early May.
