The Commission recently hosted a Mid West episode screening of one of our longest running TV series - Aussie Gold Hunters, in partnership with producers, Electric Pictures Pty Ltd.
The series follows gold prospectors in various locations of regional WA as they strive to reach their season target (measured in troy ounces of gold).
They use a variety of mining techniques including use of metal detectors of surface or excavated soil for gold nuggets; and sluicing, dry blowing or heap leaching for gold particles.
Now in its ninth season, the series has been a ratings success, with worldwide distribution and a viewer count of over forty million.
The Commission works closely with Screenwest to generate positive social and economic outcomes for the region with productions accessing the WA Screen Fund, such as Aussie Gold Hunters.
The fund enables investments into regional film industry activity, building local capacity and contributing to the vibrancy of regional WA communities.
There is a particular focus on encouraging purchasing goods and services in the region in which the production is taking place, capitalising on tourism development opportunities, facilitating local employment and establishing longer term economic and cultural benefits in the region.
The Commission also provides a liaison point for productions looking for a regional location to shoot their film and provide connections with the region’s creative economy.
The Commission thanks Electric Pictures CEO Andrew Ogilvie and Line Producer Jillian Bailey for their commitment to increasing the profile of our outback regions to a global audience through the series.
