Last week, the Commission, in partnership with the Department of Training and Workforce Development and the Australian Department of Home Affairs, led an information session for the local building and construction sector on the State and Federal Government initiatives and support available to address workforce shortages in our region.
The session provided information on the Construction Visa Subsidy Program, Construction Migration Office, Skilled Migrant Employment Register and updates on other migration initiatives and services delivered by the Government of Western Australia and the Department of Home Affairs.
The Mid West region is experiencing sustained economic growth, with numerous major mining, renewable energy and infrastructure projects planned or underway.
The WA Government has also signalled its intent to capitalise of the region’s wind and solar energy potential for the State’s emerging hydrogen energy market by investing in the development of the Mid West Hydrogen Hub.
Workforce shortages are already impacting the delivery of projects and services that are key economic drivers of the region.
By increasing our access to a locally based workforce for projects and industries now and in future, we increase our regional capacity to deliver projects and promote investment activity, all of which support the development and diversification of the Mid West economy.
