While visiting Geraldton today Hon Don Punch MLA, Minister for Regional Development took the opportunity to preview a Regional Economic Development Grant project, Welcome to Gero, which is nearing completion.
Known locally as the Blue Heelers site on Marine Terrace, this prime CBD location has been creatively repurposed thanks to a $250,000 grant, to accommodate an exciting tourism and entertainment precinct designed to showcase the very best of the Mid West.
Welcome to Gero is a project that can deliver tremendous benefits for the local community, including jobs for local people, a place for community connection and cultural celebration and a unique experience for visitors and residents.
It compliments the Government of Western Australia’s $5 million Investment Attraction Fund commitment to the broader development of the West End Precinct, commencing with the revitalisation of the Geraldton Radio Theatre.
The Welcome to Gero project was represented by Julian Canny from local partner organisation, Euphorium, pictured with Minister Punch, Member for Geraldton Lara Dalton MLA, Commission Chair Rob Houwen and CEO Nils Hay.
The Regional Economic Development Grants program is a $50.85 million State Government initiative that invests in local projects to stimulate economic growth and development in regional WA and is delivered by the Commission in the Mid West region, with support from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
